  • De Lijn operates bus and tram services in Flanders, covering cities like Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, and more.
  • TEC operates bus services in Wallonia, covering cities like Liège, Charleroi, Namur, and others.

Bus tickets can be purchased directly from the driver upon boarding the bus. It is recommended to have the exact change ready. Some buses also accept contactless payment methods. Alternatively, you can consider purchasing a multi-journey ticket or a day pass, which offers unlimited travel within a specific area or duration.

In some regions, there are integrated ticketing systems that allow you to use a single ticket for multiple modes of public transport (bus, tram, metro) within a specific area or region.

Trains.

Belgian National Railways (NMBS/SNCB) operates the train services throughout Belgium, connecting major cities, towns, and even international destinations.

Train tickets can be purchased at train stations from ticket counters or automated machines. You can choose between single journey tickets or consider rail passes, such as the “Go Pass” for young travelers (26 years and under) or the “Rail Pass” for adults, which offer a fixed number of journeys within a specific period.

The Thalys train offers connections to Paris, Amsterdam, and Cologne, while the Eurostar connects Brussels to London.

The main coastal ferry service is operated by Westerschelde Ferry, linking the towns of Breskens (in the Netherlands, map) and Vlissingen (in Belgium).

Cities like Bruges and Ghent provide canal tours, allowing you to explore their picturesque waterways and historic sites from a unique perspective. Boat tours are also available on the River Scheldt in Antwerp and the River Meuse in Namur, offering scenic views and a different way to experience these cities.

In certain areas, river shuttles or water taxis operate to transport passengers along rivers and canals. For example, in Ghent, there is a water tram service (Waterlijn) that operates between different stops along the River Leie and the canals, providing a convenient and scenic way to travel within the city.
