Diekirch (map) is a small town in Luxembourg, best known for its brewery of the same name. Carnival cavalcade with more than 60 floats and groups. Other Carnivals are found in Luxembourg in Wasserbillig, Petange, Remich (the so-called Pretzel Sunday) and Schifflange.
The expression Cavalcade goes back to 1349 and referred to a parade with horses and people. Today it is understood as a carnival parade. The first Cavalcade in Diekirch was organized in 1870.
Until 2005 the route ran through the pedestrian zone of the old town, today it leads around the old town.
More than 50 decorated floats, 10 groups and organisations on foot and four music ensembles jollied their way in true carnival style, delighting the crowds along the way. Once the parade reached its destination in the town centre by early afternoon, the festivities and partying continued throughout the day.
The Belgian SNCB / NMSB also has trains connecting Luxembourg with Bruxelles-Midi. Some trains continue to Strasbourg in France and Basel in Switzerland. +There is also a slower Intercite connection via Nancy all the way south to Nice > French SNCF.
